Cleveland Mountain Knife-Edge

Cleveland Mountain Knife-Edge

At the beginning of the knife-edge section en route to Cleveland Mountain, in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Due to the steep rocky sides of this ridge, it is dangerous any time of the year. However, the optimum times to climb this section are during Spring while snow completely covers the ridgetop and allows passage (using an ice axe), and during Summer/Autumn months when the ridgetop is dry. The ridgetop is not recommended for passage during wet periods and during late Spring when the ridge is half-snow, half-wet ground. Photo taken on May 23, 2010.
