Cliffs at Wisemans View

Cliffs at Wisemans View

We had a good time playing on the cliffs at Wisemans View. Hawksbill Mountain is to the far left in the picture. It is about a 100 yard walk on a paved sidewalk from the parking lot to the spectacular scenery at Wisemans View. Very little work for such an outstanding reward! Notice...

all of the dead hemlocks! They're pretty much all gone in the Gorge. A few nice ones near the falls area that were treated against infestation by the National Park Service. And a few here and there that haven't quite died, but overall, they're extinct in that area.

Re: Notice...

Yeah, it's pretty hard to not notice all the dead trees when you are in the southern Appalachians Are they completely gone or is there second growth coming along?

Re: Notice...

Unless some way pops up to deal with the invasive species Hemlock wooly adelgid, then our native hemlock species (Eastern and Carolina) are extinct. That means forever.
