Climbing partner Dale Ramquist checks out a huge crevasse encountered on the Kautz route. This one seemed to run for half a mile, forcing us completely off our desired course. It was jumpable in places, but we didn't want to break out the rope and so we simply went around the thing. We never did see the bottom of the gaping abyss--it must have been a hundred feet deep.
