buzzdainerAppalachian Trail  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 1, 1995

Rainy day. Climbed up the weird lookout tower, where I could see nothing, then quickly retreated and kept hiking.

Dangers Pop

People, dead trees and a space ship looking structure at the top. I guess if you're going to the Smokey Mountains you've got to experience this.

argothorWalked the last bit from the parking lot  Sucess!

Drove up to the vast parking lot, and then walked the rest of the way. One tough peak. First state high point though.

Date Climbed: May 27, 2003

This was part of an 11 state highpoint trip that started in St Louis and ended in Missoula Montana. Great spot to stretch the legs!

Did Clingman's Dome the easy way shortly after getting hitched. It was really windy, and it was a shame to see what was happening to the trees at the summit, but the views were still great.

climbmnToo much haze  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 4, 2007

Easy hike with no view because of the haze caused mostly from pollution. A fun way to stretch the legs, however.

MollyLSuper Foggy  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 27, 2007

For being such a lame hike I was hoping at least for a view - but no such luck...super dense fog and even some thunder and lightening! Fun climbing (I mean walking) with my friends anyway!

wear flip flops and bring along a Big Gulp from 7-11.
Also hiked up 8/4/91 and 4/1/98 on my AT Thru-hike. Definitely a beatiful area.

Stu Brandel

Not for the hiker, but worth the time to see the view. There are quite wonderful ridge trails right nearby that offer solitude and dramatic wild vistas.

I hated this walk up but I was interested to see the area. Incredible how many whiney out of shape people were there that day.

rathvon350Animal in a zoo  Sucess!

I climbed this mountain a few years ago. It was the pinnacle of a 5 day trip in the Smokies. Hiking up to the parking lot there was a woman standing in the middle of the trail just staring at us. I thought there was a bear behind me. I guess she just couldn't believe we had walked all the way up there. Oh yeah, and visibility was zero!

KevinEldonShould have brought more water  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 30, 2006

I climbed this one from Elkmont campground. Wasn't expecting the heat humidity to be an issue and ended up dehydrating myself... stupid mistake. Either way I made it to the top. Great hike. Hiking from a lower elevation is worth it, you get to enjoy the dense forest and the nooks between the mountain ridges.
