Route Climbed: Southwest Ridge Date Climbed: August 2000  Sucess!

Fun and easy climb, fairly physicaly stressful but the view is well worth it. We started early and got off the mountian before any storms accumulated.

Route Climbed: hiking route Date Climbed: 1987  Sucess!

These were the early days for me. I was with NOLS school on an outdoor educators course. We spent 21 days in the bighorns cruising the trails and climbing summits.

Route Climbed: Southwest ridge Date Climbed: 08/20/2001  Sucess!

My climbing partner Randy Bullerdick and I backpacked in from Battle Park trailhead towards Lake Solitude. We camped at a mid-sized unnamed lake about halfway between Lake Solitude and Mistymoon Lake. The lake is about 0.25 miles north of the trail and is located at the foot of the southwestern ridge running off of Cloud Peak. It hidden behind a saddle and some small peaks. The elevation here is about 10,300 ft., and it is about 9 miles from the Battle Park trailhead. From here we climbed Cloud Peak from the foot of the southwestern ridge. You gain a lot of your elevation early on this route, and so it is much more scenic than the classic route up the Paint Rock Creek drainage. Lots of Boulder hopping though, and we descended the normal route. Our summit day was about 8 miles round trip, and the next day we exited an alternate trail 8 miles back to Battle Park that took us past Mistymoon Lake and down through the Middle Paint Rock Creek drainage. The ground was fairly dry, and I gambled and wore my trail runners during the whole expedition. The gamble paid off, as I had comfortable and dry feet for the whole trip.

Route Climbed: Northeast from Lake Solitude Date Climbed: Augest 20, 2001  Sucess!

My climbing partner David Keating, came up with this unique route. We started up a nearby ridge which eliminated most of the elevation. We scrambled from there for about two and half miles until we met up with the normal trail. We summited the mountain before noon.

Route Climbed: Mistymoon Trail Date Climbed: July, 1983  Sucess!

Walked up this cloudy peak, with my bride, during our honeymoon. A lovely time indeed. Of course we started late, getting out of the tent that is, every morning. We had the mountain to ourselves for 3 days. It was a very leisurely and pleasurable 1 day walk in, 1 day up and down from summit and 1 day walk out. Enjoyed it so much that we reloaded our packs at the car and walked into the Lost Twin Lakes Cirque area, but that is another story.
