Rocky Climb to a Gorgeous Summit  Sucess!

Made this the centerpiece of a 3 day backpack trip into the Bighorns. Parking at Tensleep TH was difficult (packed!). Nice 6-7 mile walk into Mistymoon Lake. Camped to the right (east) of where the trail meets the lake. Good fishing and swimming in the lake there. Cloud Peak was a very enjoyable day hike from camp. Lots of water along the way. Plenty of boulder and talus navigation. Rewarding summit with beautiful views in all directions. Nice to have a second night of camping to rest before hiking back to TH. Would be difficult for dogs or small children due to long stretches of rugged rocky terrain.

Cloud Peak Climb  Sucess!

It was a difficult run, but I climbed Cloud Peak from the base to the summit on Monday, August 12th. Definitely glad I did it.

Bighorn Beauty  Sucess!

Backpacked to camp at Paint Rock Creek the night before. 12 other tents there, but we found a secluded spot above the lowest waterfall. Then made the long boulder hop to the summit the next morning. Amazing views from the top. The hike back wore us out though. Trip Report

Weekend Outing  Sucess!

With Rachael. Quick backpack trip, in Saturday night and climbed Cloud Sunday. Also tagged PT 11112 and PT 11100 (above Lake Helen on the west) on our way back to our Lake Helen campsite. Long drive but very worth the trip. The views of all the glacial cirques/lakes are fantastic!

Not the best of days but well worth it  Sucess!

I was sick when I woke up (you know it's going to be a good day when you rush for the toilet and don't make it) but I figured since I was at the trailhead I would do it anyway. Started using a headlamp and finished using one. Eight hours up and seven hours down for a fifteen hour and forty minute day. Weather was great, mosquitoes were minimal, and the views were spectacular. I just didn't set any land speed records : )

Cloud  Sucess!

Did this one as a solo dayhike after climbing Crazy Peak the day before. Great trail a lot of the way from the West Tensleep TH and then a fairly smooth boulder hop to the top. Round trip in a bit less than 9 hours.

Boom!  Sucess!

Left the tailhead at 7:30 with an overnight bag. Dropped my pack at Mistymoon and carried on up the peak and reached the summit just before 1pm. One of the best summit views I have experienced with around 70+ 9000ft peaks under my belt. Not to be missed.

SW Ridge in a day  Sucess!

Went with WyomingSummits and hiked the peak in a day starting at 3am from West Tensleep. This was my first visit to the Big Horn Range (well, besides Loaf Mountain the day before)...I will be back! Quite windy, but the views of the Merlon and Black Tooth were awesome

Re: SW Ridge in a day

We left the trailhead at 3:30 am and summited at 10am. :) Next time we'll have technical gear and get the Merlon and Woolsey/Blacktooth.

w10sleep  Sucess!

Camped at 2nd lake past misty moon and were alone. Very picturesque. The long rock hop to the top can be made more fun by staying on the southern ridge where the rocks are generally larger, more stable and the cliff views get better and better. Pretty impressive eastern cirque and the ridge to Black Tooth looks insane! I will have to come back to get Black tooth at some point and maybe if I wanna lug all the gear way in Mt. Woolsey. It sure looks like an adventure.

Standard route  Sucess!

Tagging ultra-prominence peaks. It's a bit of a long slog in from West Tensleep, but the boulder-hop is actually quite pleasant as far as such things go. The area between Cloud and Black Tooth is impressive, with sheer faces and a real glacier on Cloud's east side. I need to come back for Black Tooth and Innominate at some point. Trip report.

An Adventure!  Sucess!

What an amazing backpacking experience! I was a part of a group of three hikers. We took a side by side to Lily Lake in the late afternoon(the trail starts just below Battle Park) and picked up the hiking trail from there (Trail #66). It's much shorter and more deserted than the trail from West Tensleep Lake. I definitely recommend it. We camped just above Paint Rock Waterfalls for the night. The next morning we woke up with the sun. It took my group of somewhat inexperienced hikers 5 hours to reach the summit with breaks and picture opportunities included. We only ran into one other group on our way up. WHAT A VIEW!! So worth the boulder hopping (maybe...haha). On the way back down the mountain we saw that there were about 5-6 new tents set up with people planning to summit the next day. We packed up our tent and grabbed our backpacks and headed back down the trail. Now looking back, we all wish we would have stayed another night. I would suggest doing this hike over 3 days and 2 nights unless you are an experienced hiker. It was a great adventure and we are already planning on doing more backpacking trips next year! Cloud Peak rocks!
