Long day from Tenaya Lake to Cloud's Rest and then to Half Dome and back. Nice ridge to the peak, awesome view of the valley and half dome.

Unbelievable Views  Sucess!

Long dayhike from Happy Isles, Half Dome cables were being installed that day so not too many people on the trail... This hike had everything (except bears, unfortunately). Absolutely incredible views of the surrounding high country and the valley below, a bit of routefinding due to significant snow near the summit. 10/10 best hike ever

From Curry Village  Sucess!

No exact date, but sometime in late Oct, 1978 with friend from work. At the time the longest dayhike I'd ever done. Beautiful view of the Valley and the High Country. Man, did my knees hurt by the time we returned.

Great Summit  Sucess!

Beat the crowd to the summit, which I believe has better views than Half-Dome. One of my favorite spots in Yosemite.

Day trip from Yosemite Valley. Great snow but less than a hundred feet of visibility on the summit. Clouds Rest at its best!

Backpacked in from Tuolumne Meadows. Then Half Dome the next day then to to Valley.

Saw two people talking on their cell phones. I brought my handheld hamradio and made a simplex contact to a guy 35 miles away.

Uneventful day hike with friends. A little too much forest hiking for my liking but the view from the ridge and summit is awesome!

Camped at tht top of Clouds Rest on my 8th day of 11day backpacking trip. It was so beautiful watching the Sunset and Sunrise from the peak. Only the problem was there were tons of mosquite out there and I got to stay in the tent until sun goes down.

Climbing Alone to Cloud's Rest

I'm going hike Cloud's Rest for the first time this July. I have nobody to hike it with. Hiking alone has it's own dangers. I have questions. 1) Should I worry about hiking alone on this? 2) How do I find somebody to hike with? If you could respond to my email address, I'd sure appreciate it! john.v.lillywhite@gmail.com. THANKS!!!

Re: Climbing Alone to Cloud's Rest

You should have no problem with this hike in July no matter which direction you start, Tanaya Lake or Happy Isles. Take a light jacket, water and a filter. It normally takes us between 8 and 12 hours to complete and while the view is amazing the hike itself is not hard at all.
