Wow! this hike was much tougher than I thought, it seemed to go on forever. We had the mountain to ourselves. There was snow on the summit. This Southern sixer is perhaps one of the harder ones in North Carolina. We actually finished this one at night.

Daryl, Jason, Micah and Tommy (me) hiked to the summit early on Sunday morning from Deep Gap campsite. Bluebird morning, dusting of snow over visible peaks and ridges.

Shining Rock Wilderness and the Cold Mountain area are one the most peaceful places on the east coast. If you are here for a bit, do not miss the hike along the nearby ridge known as the Narrows, exhilarating.
