SummaryThis trip takes you on a scenic tour right into the heart of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness (1) located in the easternmost region of the Angeles National Forest, part of the Los Angeles Transverse Range system, where it borders with the San Bernardino National Forest, part of the Los Angeles Transverse Range system (2).
Access to the truck trail is restricted by a heavy iron gate that is normally locked. Access to the road may or may not be permitted, depending on how you interpret the laws and lawsuits surrounding this trail and wilderness region. There is lots of information out there on this region. I suggest doing a search on the terms: Ronald L. Curtis, Andrew Mine, Tungsten Mine, Sheep Mountain Wilderness, Coldwater Canyon Truck Trail, etc and make your decision based on that information.
The trail condition varies, and is quite bad at some places, so if you take a bike, be prepared to walk it in some places.Photos
