Coldwater Peak  Sucess!

Super socked in with fog on trip up.
Some clearing at the summit, great views of Spirit lake and St Helens lake for a few minutes.
Incredible to see the forest regrowth post eruption (42 years)
Huckleberries in season, lots of bear scat on trail.
Beautiful area, lovely hike.

From the South Coldwater Trailhead   Sucess!

We had our eyes on 2 others as well but a storm was moving in so we just settled for this awesome peak. Incredible views and fall colors.

First in MSHNVM  Sucess!

Headed up from Johnston Observatory with Maddie, on the Boundary Trail. It was a misty 4th Eve that ended up being a cool, bluebird day. Nice trail, no snow, cool arch, and what a crater view! We moved on to Margaret from there!

Via Johnston Ridge  Sucess!

Amazing day! Some high thin cloud cover to start the day turned into blue skies in the afternoon. It was a pretty easy 6 miles to the summit, relatively speaking. A mere 2000 ft elevation gain for a summit like this sure is easy on the legs! There was some snow, enough for my hiking partner to call it a day part way up the final push to the summit, but pretty easy for me. It made for a quick descent standing glissading and plunge stepping. Only downside was I didn't apply sunscreen until 4 hours in and burned pretty bad. I must have passed bellinghamclimber on the trail. I'm surprised more people haven't been up here. Great hike, especially for the early season!

beautiful hike, wonderful views  Sucess!

What a beautiful place! We hiked up here in late June- there were still a few snow patches, but nothing significant. This makes a great day hike from the Johnston Observatory.

Lots of Snow and Ice  Sucess!

Didnt bring crampons or my ice ax but was able to kick some steps in to the summit after doing some small scrambling up the south ridge. Real summit trail was buried still.

Fun peak  Sucess!

Wow, Just found this page. I have climbed this one several times. The Mount Margaret Backcountry is an amazing area. The amount of elk roaming around is impressive.

Great Day  Sucess!

Had always wanted to hike in this area to see the breach in St. Helens. Hiked up in morning fog, tagged Coldwater Peak, then over to Mt. Margaret. Ran into a bull elk on the way back. Tourons near the Observatory in the afternoon on the hike back. Heard lots of foreign languages that day.
