Copeland via Southeast Gulley  Sucess!

Started from Finch Lake TH with Ben and Andrea at about 4:45am. Tried to start from Allenspark TH, but there were some confusing "No Trespassing" and "No Parking" signs there, so we opted for a more sure, but longer, route. Path to Pear Lake was straightforward and gradual, but a bit snowy. Navigating to the upper lakes above Pear Lake was super simple. Going up the Southeast Gulley wasn't much fun. Navigation was difficult and lots of opportunities to cliff out if you're not on the right path (same going down—had to do a difficult climb because I was stupid and got off route). Be careful and plan for lots more time than you'd think. From the top of the gulley to the summit is a slog, but the views from the top are downright beautiful. Summited right around 11:15ish. Cruised on down to finish by 4:15pm, w/ 17.2 miles and ~6,000 ft of gain.

Long Hike to One of RMNP's Most Remote Summits  Sucess!

Started from the Finch Lake TH around 4:45 am with Andrea and Jesse. We took the southeast slopes gully route. The route from Pear Lake to the gully is pretty easy to find. Just strike north from the northwest side of Pear Lake. The gully sits obviously to the northwest of the two small lakes. The gully is STEEP. There is a ton of loose scree and rockfall is a serious hazard. You will likely be the only party in the gully, but make sure to separate your party so you don't knock rock on each other. This gully is especially hard when descending. The ascent up the east slopes of Copeland takes awhile as there is a lot of rock hopping. The views from the top, however, are some of the best I have seen of Wild Basin. We made it back to the truck by 4:15, 17.2 miles later.

the copeland boulder hop  Sucess!

easily the most strenuous, unrelenting boulder hopping i've ever encountered. copeland's north face may look like a nice day, but beware of the thousands of boulders one will be forced to cross en route. yuck!

Slog is an understatement  Sucess!

...but I do like an occasional slog. A well packed boot track most of the way to Ouzel Lake combined with good weather made this December ascent possible. Something like 14.5 miles RT from the winter parking, 10.5 hours car to car. Awesome views of Longs/Meeker.

Cross country from Ouzel falls  Sucess!

A long day cross country from Ouzel falls with Kevin (shknbk). RT mileage was about 12.5mi. Plowing through feet of powder made for a 13h epic. Windy and cold on top but clear skies with great views!

East Ridge  Sucess!

5/13/07 - This was my first trip to the Wild Basin area and I have to admit that I was highly impressed. Area was still covered in snow. Left trail at Ouzel Falls and headed SW through the trees to gain Copeland's east ridge. On the way back we descended to Ouzel Lake and followed the trail from there.

1/10/2015 - From Allenspark Trailhead. Hiked to Pear Lake and climbed a short south facing couloir to gain the east ridge. Amazingly hard and consolidated snow for January!

Route: From Ouzel Lake  Sucess!

I climbed this solo from the Ouzel Lake side. I saw another climber decending below me on the east ridge as I was going up the north east side. When I finally reached the summit after the long (unending) tundra slope I couldn't get the lid off of the summit register, so I took a self timed photo of myself and a panorama from the summit. Even though it is not difficult climbing it is a long day with 4646ft of elevation gain.
