Court of the Crimson King

Court of the Crimson King

"The rusted chains of prison moons, Are shattered by the sun. I walk a road, horizons change, The tournaments' begun. The purple piper plays his tune, The choir softly sing, Three lullabies in an ancient tongue, For the court of the crimson king." (King Crimson - 1969) The colors of sandstone are usually tan or yellow, derived from a blend of clear quartz with the dark amber feldspar content of the sand. A predominant additional colorant in the Southwestern US is iron oxide, which imparts reddish tints, ranging from pink to dark red (terra cotta), with additional manganese imparting a purplish hue. As you approach Courthouse Butte from the south, it appears flat and round, almost like a judge's gavel. However if you move around to the southeast, the Butte is stepped, with a sheer wall that defies climbing. November 4, 2008

Awesome picture!

Beside the fact that King Crimson is my favorite band and that the song "Court of the Crimson King" is one of the best and most powerful songs ever, it is just amazing how the lyrics work together perfectly with the colors in the picture.
Thanks for posting it!

Re: Awesome picture!

THANKS, Matt! To tell you the truth, I just
happened to be in the right place at the right time. The late afternoon (fall/winter) lighting on this rock can be quite remarkable.

I hope you can experience it "first-hand"
the next time you visit central Arizona.

It's going to be getting WARM here pretty
soon. Daytime temps (in central AZ) will
exceed 80-degrees (F) today. Kind of freakin' hot, but that's the way life is in
the desert.

Take care, man! - Larry : )

I have very good memories

of listening to King Crimson while driving through desert wilderness between hikes and campspots (in my case the San Rafael Swell).

Re: I have very good memories

I did a lot of listening, back when I was a single man.

Now, when my wife speaks to me, I say "YES, HONEY!"
My intention is to prove to my wife that I
can still listen. : ))))

Hey, thanks Sean !!
