Not successful

I thought I would give it a try but when I saw the condition of the route I considered it an unwise choice to do alone and especially without gear for the descent.

Deteriorating Rock

This attempt was the third time for 2012. Courthouse Rock is like a tiered cake. All goes well until the next to last tier. The ledge on that tier, that has been used for many years, now has some of the shelf broken off, along with some former handholds. I hope no one was injured when that happened. This route needs some work, but I apparently contacted all the wrong people in my attempt to see if I could do the work myself. Just a bunch of "passing the buck". I wish Nebraska would take seriously the hiking and climbing resources they have on public lands. There is much to offer, but there seems to be little interest in maintaining or developing much of it.

A nice outing and a worthwhile climb. Very hot for the July ascent. We looked for a possible route up Jail Rock to no avail. In December, the land was brown and storm clouds were moving in, giving the ascent a desolate, timeless feel.
