| Been wanting to do this hike since the fall with my son and finally had the chance. We did the long loop coming back on the Putnam trail. The views at the top were spectacular. The pond was a great place on the way down to stop for lunch and just enjoy the beauty of the adirondacks. | ||

| Winter hike was sheer ice and brutal cold in January. Summer hike was exact opposite, but great views in the summer, icy summit in the winter. | |

|  We started out by doing the 1.4 mile (short trail) to the peak of Crane Mountain. From the peak we wandered down to the lake, and from the lake we returned on the Putnam trail that eventually took us to a fire road. The total loop distance was 4.9 miles. It is about a mile down to the lake from the peak, and then, I'm estimating, it's about 2.5 miles back to the parking lot. The return trail came out a little bit down the road from the parking lot, whereas the ascent trail started from the North East corner of the parking lot. I must admit that the 1.4 mile walk to the peak has a very steep section at the beginning, but since the walk is so short it's not a tough hike overall. It's fun to climb the two ladders along the way to the peak.Read my trip report. | |

| Went there on a rainy day that opened to nice views. We did a loop trip, with exploration N of the pond. Saw a beaver, red efts, etc. -- all a refreshing change from my dry home state of NV. | |
