Crater cornices | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
This is the general area where a climber fell into the crater and died last week. Everyone on the mountain was keeping well away from the edge for obvious reasons. February 20, 2010

Voted 10/10 | Isn't there a way an anchor could be installed somewhere along the rim, where a
fixed rope could be secured so people could
clip onto it and at least give them a feeling that they won't fall into the crater ??? | | Posted Feb 21, 2010 3:02 pm |

Hasn't voted | Any anchor would get buried after every snowfall. Best approach is to just not walk out onto a cornice. There is plenty of room up there to walk around and get views without walking all the way to the edge. | | Posted Feb 21, 2010 4:09 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Agreed. But, HOW are you going to explain
that to some people ??? ??

Hasn't voted | The most shocking thing was that it was his 68th summit of St. Helens...of all people he should have known to stay back. Very sad to lose a member of the community who loved the mountains as much as he seemed to. | | Posted Feb 21, 2010 9:30 pm |
