South Face

Ryan, this is a great photo of the entire south face route. You should do an route drawing and submit this photo again. Great shot!

Re: South Face

Agreed. I can also see the West Couloir Route clearly in this picture!

Re: South Face

Thanks for the kudos, guys! Aaron, what's the West Couloir route? Would that be the couloir on the Needle that leads to just under the Black Gendarme?

Re: South Face

Hi Ryan-No. It's the short couloir to the LEFT of the standard route in this picture. A rock fin splits the two. This west couloir is mentioned in the Roach 14er guidebook. We took this route going down the mountain. It was fun and involved a 40 foot sheer downclimb when re-entering the standard couloir. I discuss it in more detail here.

If you want to send me a copy of the picture, I'll draw in the route for clarification and send it back to you to submit. It would be a nice info addition resulting from a collaborative effort for Allan's page.

What a great shot!

This really does show how serious this peak could be. Great profile of the summit. Thanks!
