North ridge
From the base of the Baldwin Gulch 4WD road, which was still blocked by snow low down. A faster spring route might be to take the road up to Baldwin Lake and boot straight up the northwest side. The warm night meant that there was some wretched snowshoe-postholing on the way down in the afternoon. Cronin can be easily combined with Grizzly, but I was lazy. Trip report.
After Antero and Mount White, hails the whole way down. (my son and Duchess did Antero with me, and I went onto the next two peaks by myself).
Nice soak in the Princeton Hot Springs.
After Antero, headed for Cronin . . . a little crumbly in places.

Cyclone Creek 4 pack
Looped Carbonate, Cyclone, "Lo Carb," and Cronin. Thought about adding Grizzly Mtn, but fatigue and weather got the better of us (well, not John). Good thing we didn't go up Grizzly cuz the trip back was accompanied by graupel, rain, and thunder practically the whole way. With Bob, Kate, and John.
Peak 4 of the day on a stellar blue-bird run from Carbonate and points in between. Was going to combine with Grizzly to the West but the weather was starting to turn. Another pleasant, solo trip in the Sawatch.
First peak of the day of a 6 peak day. bushwhacked straight up the ravine to a mellow rib to the east ridge.
Squirrly weather all day. Some spooky clouds.

Nice ridge walk
Climbed Grizzly Mountain from Cyclone Creek then traversed the mini-knife edge on the east ridge over to Cronin Peak then on to Cyclone Mountain and Carbonate Mountain. Dropped 3,000' in two miles down the south ridge of Carbonate back to my vehicle. The beginning and end of this loop in the trees/willows was unpleasant but the ridge portion was great!

winter trip finisher
capped off my 2011 winter trip with an ascent of cronin w/steve and james. the day was super and the wind wasn't more than an obnoxious pain in the rear. gorgeous snow capped summit! uncompahgre from up top is always a great way to finish the uphill half of your journey!

Up west slopes, down north ridge
Hiked to Baldwin lake before tackling the west slopes. This is a good way to feel some solitude after you ahem... leave the jeep trail to the lake. Couldn't have had better weather. Climbed during a week of working nights.

From White-winter ascent
I never thought I would repeat Cronin in winter, but it's a pretty mountain, so why not! Followed the kick stepping machines (Dominic & Sarah) up the east ridge on good snow, not as icy as the last time. Came over from Antero and White. Long, cold day!
We went up the North Ridge and descended back towards Antero. Huge storm over Shavano on the descent but it never came closer to us. Think km_donovan was who we met on the summit.
From the Cyclone Creek trailhead, I Climbed the South face of Grizzly Mountain, traversed to Cronin Peak, back to Cyclone Mountain, and then finished on Carbonate Mountain. Car to car was around 6 hours 40 minutes.
Cronin turned into a good plan B. I went up the road toward Antero and headed up the gulch and slogged up the rock rib to join the ridge proper. The rock rib was definitely steeper than I thought it was going to be!

This was a fun one - we were forced off the summit and we literally skied down the scree field in the rain. Boulder surfing at age 6 - for the win!
