Crossing the lava field
This photo depicts the lava field on the approach to Paricutin from the north. The smaller cone on the left of Paricutin is known as the Sapichu cone.

I believe it was about 2 miles to the cone from the beginning of the field. The hardest part was remembering to go slowly to stay with the lagging students:)
