Approach


take highway 79 to paso picacho campground in the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, park in the day use area, walk threw campground towards the signed cuyamaca peak fire road.

Route Description


Hike up the one-laned paved lookout road at the southern end of the campground. No vehicles are aloud. Its a steep walk up the road through beautiful stands of pines and cedar and higher up white fur. About 3/4 of the way to the top you come to a clearing looking west. Scenic views looking towards the pacific and the coronado islands can be seen on clear days. Keep on going soon you are at the top, a antena is on top but the views in all directions are worth the effort. Total roundtrip mileage is around 6 miles.

Essential Gear


Water, food, a windbreaker and a good pair of binoculars. In winter you can cross country ski or snowboard down this peak after a good snow.
