Fire Road to the summit   Sucess!

Hiked the fire road with the wife. A bit of a warm day but easy enough. Nice views from the summit.

A Lovely Jaunt  Sucess!

Very well paved trail to the top. It is very steep but doable. A lovely campground at the bottom.

Break from work retreat  Sucess!

Instead of participating in one of the firm's "activities" I decided to go hiking. This peak has been on my list ever since I moved to Southern California in 2012. I dashed over to the mountain after lunch, quickly hiked to the top (at least, it was "quick" by my own out-of-shape standards) and then drove back.

It was worth it. The upper levels of the mountain seem to recovering well from the 2003 fire, with lots of 6-10 foot tall Coulter pines, with smaller incense ceders, white firs, and sugar pines. The lower parts of the mountain don't seem to be doing quite as well, but even there there were scattered young Coulter pines in many areas. I've read that this area will "never be the same," but I don't think that's true. I bet in another 10-25 years it looks the same as it did before the fire.

Training Hike  Sucess!

Took the drive to Cuyamaca Peak in preparation for Adventure 16's Three Peak Challenge. Perfect weather, albeit a little warm, but nice breezes. It was sad to see all the devastation from the Cedar Fire of 2013, but still lots of trees and beautiful wildflowers as you get closer to the summit. The views from the top were spectacular as I could see my three objectives for the challenge (Mount San Antonio, Mount San Gorgonio, Mount San Jacinto) as well as the Salton Sea and all of San Diego County.

with Middle, Japacha, Stonewall  Sucess!

Nice views from both sides of the large summit area. Benchmark disc missing from the highest boulder, but I could see where it used to be. Found reference marks, a county benchmark, and a NASA benchmark.

Meh  Sucess!

Nothing like walking a paved fire road for 6 miles. Great views from the top, but the trip up was boring. Patchy snow on the road up.

Road hike  Sucess!

My wife hated the winding roads from Ramona but we had a great day to do this one. I told her I'd be back to the day use area in 3 hours figuring 2 hours up & an hour down. Nice little rock scramble to get to the highest rock but was rewarded with great views. I made it back down in 50 minutes. Saw only two others that hiked to the top.

6 Peaks Dayhike  Sucess!

I did this as part of a 20ish mile loop which also included Little Stonewall, Stonewall, Arrowmakers Ridge, Japacha, and Middle Peak. This is definitely one of the more boring areas I've explored in southern California.

Skip the sidewalk  Sucess!

Hiked numerous times. Probably the most memorable was on a snowy evening with my young sons. We saw some pretty large fresh tracks which I thought could be those of a cougar. Needless to say we began singing Christmas Carols in earnest.

Fun

The trail is paved to the top, which means the route is practically straight up. It was a fun hike.
