W-ridge during MB traverse
Climbed it during my solo climb of Mont Blanc in 1 day from la Visaille (1700m) in Italy, via the Gonella route, Dôme du Goûter, summit (4810m) to Chamonix in France. #nonstopsolo

To the Mont Blanc summit via the Italian normal route.
But did not make it up to the summit of Mont Blanc.

I don't know how I missed this out for a climbers log entry. Of all the alpine summits it is the one I have most often ascended having made 8 ascents linked to attempts or ascents on Mont Blanc - starting with 1982 (1st and unsuccessful solo attempt on Mont Blanc, but did ascend the Dome and got as far as the Vallot Refuge). In 2009 I climbed the Dome solo twice in one week with 1st an unsuccessful and then a successful ascent of Mont Blanc via Bosses Ridge. My last and best ascent of the Dome was with rgg a year ago to the day, when we climbed the Gonella route to the top of the Dome - and then went on all the way to bivvy on summit of Mont Blanc.

Beautiful sunrise and views
Day 1: Hiked up to Tete Rousse from Les Houches through the lovely forest and the soon to become standard trail they are currently securing. Still had enough time to go up to Gouter hut but opinion was divided about the Grand Couloir.
Day 2: Set out at 2 after a restless night and minor acclimatisation issues. The couloir had been unstable throughout the night and was also tricky when we tried to cross. Reached the new Gouter hut at dawn. Lost some gloves while fixing a loose crampon on Dome du Gouter (had spares luckily). Turned back at Vallot around 8 o'clock due to the ~50 km winds and fatigue. (Many people summited Mont Blanc but quite a few people turned back.) 2 Spaniards had a near-fatal fall on the loose rocks below Gouter on the Bionassay side. The couloir was again in full motion, but at least we could see what we were up against. Hiked down to Les Houches the same day and did some very enjoyable ferratas in the following days.

First try for the Mont Blanc failed due to bad weather. We ended up on the Dome du Gouter and than went back to try it again one day later.
