That looks like neve to me. There was hardly any ice this year on the popular Sierra alpine couloirs.

I soloed the Dana Couloir at the end of October, and it was still mostly neve. There were a few streaks and patches of ice though.

What the heck though - from what Calvin told me, Jen had a grudge match with the Dana Couloir and it's good to see she got even :)

btw Calvin mentioned that he did Ice Nine this year in September - and there *was* ice in the final pitch. I think that one must be true water ice (melt/freeze). I wonder if Split East Couloir would have been doable this past November ...

Look, you guys are brave. I wasn't soloing this neve or not. Of course it was neve this year, with some small patches of ice.
