Dark Hollow Falls

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Dark Hollow Falls
Of all the waterfalls in the park, Dark Hollow Falls is the closest to the road. That, plus the fact that the trailhead is across the road from the park's largest campground and one of its busiest lodges and visitor centers, means it can be anything but peaceful. But if one goes early in the morning, especially in the winter, it can be as delightful as any other waterfall in the park.

This view is from where the trail reaches the base of the main falls. There are more cascades below as the stream rushes to join Rose River, which boasts three notable waterfalls itself.

Shenandoah National Park, VA; November 2009
