Denti della vecchia (tr: Teeth of Old woman) is a Luganesi Alps summit , between Switzerland and Italy. The "Sasso Grande", 1492 m is the most striking of the spars limestone that compose it. They are also called "organ pipes".Denti della vecchia are one of the oldest and historic sites of Ticino climbers . Generations of mountaineers, continued the exploration of these walls, overhangs and edges of these little Dolomites.
Some geological info
Denti della vecchia are formed by an oldest geological coat: that of the Triassic which is composed of dolomite. Between Denti and Pairolo hut can be seen conglomerates verrucani dating back to a time even more remote. Down the valley line of Val Colla, there are rocks covered by gravel, sand and clay that were originally ancient moraines of Ice Age.Getting there
From Lugano (Ti - CH) follow the cantonal road to Val Colla.Reach Sonvico - Cadro - Rosone by car/bus. 19 km from Lugano. Start hiking by easy path to Cioasco (Baita del Luca hut) - Capanna Pairlo hut - and the ridge path to Denti della Vecchia (1,30h from Rosone).
