I lived just north of Corvallis, OR when St. Helens decided to flip its lid.
I will always remember the huge ash cloud I could see in the Northern sky and the fine layer of ash we had all over the place the next day.
..that this picture brings back. I climbed it in 1973 but it took three tries to get the job done. I still remember the great glissades from the Dogs Head. Love this pic as it shows gear that was the best we had, rucksacks, wooden ice axes, etc. Thanks for posting this one.
