descending the northwest slope of Mount Merritt

Taken on our descent of the northwest slope of Mount Merritt. Just past the group of climbers, the terrain suddenly steepens into a large cliff band called the algal reef. Follow trails to identify the easiest route through the reef, which should be no worse than class III. Mount Cleveland, tallest peak in Glacier, rises behind Glenns Lake. The triple summits of the Stoney Indian Peaks are on the ridge to the left. August 27, 2011
