Are you sure these face south?

Aren't they the north-facing chutes on the left in this photo? http://www.summitpost.org/image/110779/151580/deseret-peak-from-south.html

I'm looking to ski in this area, and I'm just doing a bit of research. Thanks.

You are right, they face north. There are two prominent chutes or couloirs that are located on the east face of Deseret Peak. I think these are called the South Chutes because they are located south of the other chute which is located farther north on the east face.

Other books label the South Chutes as the North Chutes because they face toward the north. They also label the North Chute as the East Chute because it faces toward the east. These names are what skiers would most likely use instead. None of them are officially named so it can get confusing sometimes.
