| This is a beautiful summit in a beautiful area. It's a great example of how we can reclaim old mining areas and turn them into spectacular wilderness. I'm hoping to go back and ski here this Spring. | ||

| Joined my wife in SLC for a conference and traded work for mountains for a few days. I did this one in the morning of the day I had to fly home; it was a nice way to wrap up the trip. This is a beautiful hike through a beautiful wilderness area that is a pocket of color and form amid surroundings largely lacking them. I was lucky to have the mountain all to myself. | ||

| Went up the South Willow Trail and then down the Pockets Fork trail, went up the two unnamed 10er points to the north on the way back down (PT 10685, PT 10521). Great views all around, glad to have a clear day for this one. | ||

| Rode my bike up the 2 miles of gated road at 4:30 a.m. Arrived at the summit a few hours later. Very cool place. Continued north and climbed peak 10,685 and peak 10,521. Fire and washouts pushed this climb back 3 years for me! Every time I was about to head out to the Stansburys, mother nature through something at that road. I gave up and just biked it in. | Road is still washed out 2 miles short of trailhead. South Willow was well maintained, consistent in grade and enjoyable. The upper half of the north ridge return was difficult. The trail is not easily discernable and is steep. Still some small snow banks on both trails. | ||

| This is one of my favorite mountains. Ascended via South Willow Creek, descended Pocketts Fork route. Didn't see anyone else all day. South Willow Creek Road closed before the trailhead due to washouts. | ||

| We camped out across the valley in settlement canyon, Tooele, and slept in too. Didn't start til after 1pm. Very beautiful mountain! We made it to the summit at 6:30, took some pictures, etc and left the summit at 7. We were at the truck at 10pm, after hiking the last few miles in the dark. Saw lots of deer right before it got dark, and in that forested area was REALLY dark. good thing we had a mini maglite. | ||

| shphilby | Not a good day ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2008 | |
| I think everyone and their dogs were climbing this peak. And to top things off my hiking partner decided to do a hand stand on the peak and wanted me to take a pic of it. As I bent down to get a good shot my gps came off me belt and went tumbling down the cliff. We tried to find it but it was lost forever. | ||

| The road is still closed, but the hike is sill worth it. One of the park rangers suggested we try the west loop first as the east route provides more shade later in the day, it worked out great! Would rate it somewhere between moderate and difficult. | ||

| Beautiful hike - in the short time we have lived in Utah, this is easily my favorite - nice meadows, forests and then up to the saddle and to the peak. Amazing views. Only thing that was a little messed up was the additional 3.4 miles added to the hike as the road was blocked off at the Boy Scout Campground due to flash flooding damage. Oh well, no big deal ... | ||

| I was very impressed with this hike. The scenery is as good as any hike in Utah, and it's only made better to hike in alpine greenery while seeing salt flats and Great Basin desert in the distant. We did the loop route (up from the east, down to the west), and with the road closed, my GPS clocked us at 17 miles round trip. Normally I believe it's 8 or 9 miles, but the extra walking was well worth it. Only a few groups on the trail, even on the 4th of July weekend. I have to say the rock up there is beautiful too. After Provo Peak, with its shale scree, this nice quartz was very pleasant. I'd recommend that you pause before doing Timp again and enjoy this beautiful peak. It's a treasure. | ||
