kingchas#1  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 25, 2010

I am attempting to climb all of the Ultra-prominence Peaks of the 48 States in my lifetime. This was my first mountain to complete. I left salt lake at 8 am and returned home at 9 pm. A full day but a beautiful mountain. I did not see one other person on the entire trail. Not complaining.

Date Climbed: Oct 12, 2013

We attempted the South Willow route but we weren't prepared for the amount of snow we ran into. No fun to hike in wet boots! Around 9,000 feet there was a little over a foot. We're going to try tomorrow (10/19/2013) with the correct gear. I'll give some feedback on the conditions tomorrow afternoon.

CalamityJaneRattle My Bones  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 3, 2013

Can you say that my nose was in heaven. From top to bottom, I had much to smell and tall grasses and wildflowers abounded for me to prance through. I was a bit disappointed I couldn't put my rock climbing skills into play here, but the views were spectacular. I was so happy to find water when we were trailblazing down Dry Lake Fork. Much needed cooling and drink. Towards the end I seemed to anger something that was on the trail, for it ran away and rattled at me. Who couldn't love someone named Calamity?

Ten years ago I tried to summit this mountain only to become very ill on the saddle that drops to Antelope Canyon. Ten years later, another day of sickness. However when reaching the cold and windy saddle, I was determined that this mountain wouldn't thwart me again. We came back down the north side and dropped down through a saddle before Pockets Fork and came down Dry Lakes Fork. This entailed bushwhacking, but had beautiful views of Deseret and gorgeous streams. I wanted to vomit the entire way down. So glad to have done it though, and found a nice rattlesnake back near the trailhead. A rating for you Deseret. I'll be back to ski your couliers.

I got covered in burrs, some blisters attempting to break in new shoes, and stung by a bee. Pretty par for the course, as far as my luck goes. A lovely time on Deseret nonetheless! (Maybe stay on the trail, though... bushwhacking is not much fun.)

BritaNice Loop  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 15, 2013

I was worried about there being too much snow still on the mountain and we ran into some up South Willow but it wasn't too bad. We lost the trail for a bit and it was windy cold at the saddle, but everything got better after that. There were some nice views from the top. It was cool to be able to see farther west since I haven't climbed many mountains not in the Wasatch front.
We took the Pockets Fork route back down and I really enjoyed it. It was runnable and was gorgeous with tons of wild flowers and little waterfalls. This lower part would be fun to do even with little kids or people who like smaller hikes. It felt like an oasis in the desert.

runbyu1Go up Pockets Fork  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 15, 2012

We ran up South Willow and down Pockets fork. I echo what another climber said...If I could do it over again, I would definitely go the other way. The Pockets Fork route is FAR more beautiful and really would have been great to enjoy on the way up. It would also be a much better climb than a descent if you are running. We lost the trail for quite a while due to some snow on the way up the South Willow route and so did everyone else we ran in to.
That said, I was VERY impressed with this mountain...I had low expectations for some reason and they were far surpassed. This mountain has a lot of variety and it was fun climbing up and even more fun sliding down the snow! It was a beautiful day with great wildflowers, a lot of greenery and variety, and a great mountain!

MAeroToo early  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 25, 2013
Tried the Willow Creek route but it was way too early in the year. Hit snow at just below the second creek crossing in the canyon. Should have started earlier because postholing was a problem all the way to the summit. We tried traversing on the rock where possible, which helped.

The Pockets Fork route looked like it had less snow from the top but without knowing the condition of the headwall we decided to glissade down the way we came. Next time I would definitely wait for late June or early July.

Spring ski of the Twin Coliours with summit of Deseret. Climbed the eastern col and skied to the top. Skied down the westernmost col which gets more sun. Great day about 6 hours car to car.

I have done this loop a couple times. It is a dying gem, sadly. Pine beetles are tearing up the forest. Go soon if you want to catch it at its most beautiful. Views are great from up top and you can combine it with Stansbury Island nearby, or camp. Good area.

harborRe: Twice

Most of the dead trees up there are from 2 different fires in the last 10 years as I understand it. At least on the ridge N of the trailhead and N of the saddle above Mill Fork.

Did the loop around. The valleys on the descent were amazingly lush and green and the whole mountain was covered in wildflowers. Really fantastic hike.

Date Climbed: Aug 12, 2017

1st -Jun 30, 2012 - Up Pocket Fork and down Mill Fork. Very beautiful. In my opinion this is the way to do it. Mill fork seemed pretty bland compared to the Pocket's fork side. Great day. Great hike. So many great flowers to enjoy and photograph. (Also 9th Utah COHP).
2nd - Aug 2, 2013 up and down Mill Fork.
3rd - July 19, 2014 - up and down Mill Fork. Checked out several arete's up near the top for bristlecone pine with no luck.
4th - Aug 9, 2014 - up and down Mill Fork w/ some students from GHS.
5th - Aug 1, 2015 - Up Pocket down Mill. Wonderful hike as always.
6th - Aug, 29, 2015 - Up/Down Mill - full moon hike with 2:30 am start. Made it to the top for sunrise. Gorgeous morning but very windy on top. I took a new summit register and ammo box for it. The old canister was way to small for such a popular peak.
7th - Jul, 26 2016 - Up Mill down Pocket - Hiked up for sunset on the peak with my wife to celebrate her birthday. Happy Day sweetheart!
8th - Aug 12/13 2017- Hiked up starting at 9:00 with a few members of the Tooele County Hiking Club facebook group to bring up a new register. The old one had disappeared a few days prior. We also had hopes of seeing the Perseid meteor shower. We spent about an hour up top with clouds directly above us the entire time. Lightning was striking in every direction in small clusters in all of the distant mountain ranges but the one we were on. It was so cool to see the lightning from above out across the salt lake over by bountiful, stansbury island, and south and west of us. We hiked back down to the saddle and the clouds cleared for a bit and we got to see a few really good meteors before heading back down. My first time doing a hike to a major peak completely in the dark the entire hike.

made a quick hike up this after driving down from Boise. Haze of Salt Lake City ruined views of the Wasatch. I did the loop hike which was not as ideal for trail running as returning down the South Willow trail

After an "austere bivouac" on my sister's floor in Eagle Mountain my brother and I punched this one out and were back in time for lunch. This was my first mountain outside the Pacific Northwest; I was charmed.
