| We went to Mammoth Lakes area to mountain bike. The next day we took the shuttle bus to Reds Meadow and hiked to Devils Postpile and then on to Rainbow Falls. The hike to Devils Postpile is short from the bus stop. There is a trail to the top where one can look down onto the trail and the forest. It is a short hike and also it's a loop. The trail continues on to Rainbow Falls and goes through the forest although there had been a fire 10 years earlier so no shade. | ||

| On a 5-day vacation in Mammoth. Visited the postpile and rainbow falls. Gorgeous area. Will be back to explore more of the Middle Fork San Joaquin River. | |

| Did this with my wife, 8 year old twins (one with mild cerebral palsy) and 21 month old. Continued to Rainbow Falls. Not much shade on that leg of trip. Outstanding hike, though popular. | |

| What a sight, a geology class was there studying the site, and they had great insight on how it was formed.Cool spot, and hiked down to Rainbow falls as well. | |

| Very interesting formation, hiked down the trail to where it meets with the John Muir trail and took that back around to the rangers station. | |

| I took a side trip from Yosemite to visit Devils Postpile. Not many people out hiking in October. The hexagonal pattern at the top is pretty neat. The columns resemble a mini Devils Tower. I also hiked to Rainbow Falls. Very beautiful. | |

| My first night in Mammoth. I took the latest bus that went out there and got to the top around 6:30 pm. It was nice because I was the only person there. | |
