No black flies!  Sucess!

Beautiful day in the high peaks. Clear, cool, breezy, and not a black fly to be seen. The Leach trail was in great shape. Still a few patches of snow in the woods near the top.

Headed to Dial from Nippletop. Neat views from the shoulder of Noonmark. This was the last of the High Peaks in St. Huberts we needed to complete, yay! Neat peak! 17/46

Nippletop to Bear Den  Sucess!

Hit this peak on a fairly strenuous day hike taking us from Elk Pass; over Nippletop, Dial, and Bear Den; and down.

Dial to Nippletop  Sucess!

Lot of snow. Broke trail most of the way. Slow going. We originally wanted to do Colvin, but everyone was too tired. We came back over the fish hawk cliffs and Indian Head. We managed to camp in a low spot and the wind was howlin' above our heads. We were comfy. Learned our lesson from the year before, I suppose. :-)

Thunderstorm!  Sucess!

Nasty thunderstorm on the way down from Nippletop. Unfortunately I didn't learn my lesson with thunderstorms until eleven years later during an even nastier T-storm.

melting  Sucess!

Via bear den. The fresh, heavy snow (varying from 1 to 4 inches) from the night before was quite beautiful, but everything began to melt throughout the day. Snow falling off the trees made us very wet.

Just another notch in the belt of High Peaks  Sucess!

Just a path covered by trees and a big rock on the top. A means to an end... to get to Nippletop... where the real nice views begin.

Route Climbed: From Bear Den Date Climbed: 10/10/04  Sucess!

Cool rock near the summit to sit on for snacktime. I bet somewhere out there in that sea of white clouds was an outstanding view.

Did I mention that it might rain today? The hut guy said that to me. Screw him--I like the rain, I can get the summit to myself. So there. Put that in your pipe and smoke it...But it really never stopped raining.
