Dirtyface  Sucess!

Did it the easy way - 4x4 up to 4200' on Pole Ridge - short traverse to the trail. Turned right off the trail at 5450', then went up to the helo landing zone at 5500' on the ridge to start the traverse. Never any harder than class 2 on the traverse, a little class 3 for the final scramble to the summit. 2.5 hours truck to summit. Bugs were terrible. Route map added to photo gallery.

Noel Approach From NE  Sucess!

I used the Eric Noel variation of the NE approach. I do not recommend it. The road section was HORRIBLE... massively overgrown in many sections and the bugs ate me alive. It's too bad that the route does not start at the point where the off-road portion of the summit approach occurs, as the off-road section was not only straightforward but also fairly pleasant... except for two thunderstorms and an attack by a colony of ants.

March Snowshoe  Sucess!

We snowshoed up to the lookout spot. While I didn't find many trip reports for winter climbs, this is a great snowshoe location. You get guaranteed trailhead access and the openness of the forest makes route finding relatively easy. You're rewarded with 4,000 feet of hard-fought elevation gain and a landscape that I imagine is less appealing in the dry summer.

Dirty Face all cleaned up  Sucess!

I spent two weeks working on this trail with Northwest Youthcorps. Varied teams of crewleaders and enterprising youth of today did massive amounts of work to restore this trail. We bucked out over 70 logs and completed almost a complete overhaul of the tread from top to bottom. This is a challenging hike with an amazing payoff at the top. Please get out there and enjoy. Remember the work of many teenagers and trail dogs who made this possible. And drink lots of water!

NE Route  Sucess!

Duane and I bushwhacked up from the old logging road. Road is becoming very overgrown. Not hard to follow on foot, but forget the bike. Only small snow patches left near the summit. Some steep scrambling but barely Class 3. Mosquitos were about as bad as I've ever seen in the woods. WA P3k 23/52.

Dirtyface  Sucess!

My first ascent was off route from a logging road (backdoor). It cut off alot of the mileage but it was tougher in elevation gain. Second time, did the regular route with snow. Good Plan B destination.

Klenke Variation  Sucess!

We took the old logging road and then up through the forest. Then a little bit of light scrambling up from the summit. No problems. Except for the mosquitos, evil blood suckers en masse.

100-ft Cliff

Party of four. We hiked up to the lookout site, then scrambled along the ridge with the intent of reaching Dirtyface Peak. Should have checked route more carefully, as we got turned back by a 100+ ft cliff and didn't have equipment to rap down to get to the other side. Fun scramble on the ridge! No snow along ridge, but still significant snow on NE side of ridge. It actually snowed a bit while we were up there. Very pretty!

Route Climbed: NE Route to Main Summit Date Climbed: July 9, 2005  Sucess!

A lot of travel in the trees and some good Pacific Northwest bushwhacking in spots but it eventually leads to a nice ridge scramble and a nice summit with some good views.
