Date of south slide on Dix?

This photo was taken prior to 1996. I have a photo of the south face of Dix shown here from October 1996 which shows a large slide from just below the summit (Beckhorn). Patty Schwankert's photo posted here (taken in winter) clearly shows this slide.

Anybody know when the slide occured?

Re: Date of south slide on Dix?

The slide happend in the summer of 1993 over a few weeks with the major one happeing on the night of August 2nd.

I just happend to be up in the area at the time and heard it come down late in the night after a rater large thunderstorm. I was a Marcy dam but the slide was heard as far away as Lake Placid.

Has anybody tried to climb this slide? Probably a serious bushwack to get to its base.

Re: Date of south slide on Dix?

Actually the slide obliterated part of the Round Pond Tail which now skirts around it so it is in fact one of the easier slides to get to.

I have not done this one myselft though but will try it later this summer.

Cheers
