Overview

Česka koča means Czech hut. It received this name because it was first built (in 1900) by the Prag (Czech) section of the Slovenian Mountaineering Association.
The hut is now run by the Jezersko Alpine Association (tel: 00 386 (0)4 25 41 161). Jezersko is the locality below the Czech hut.
The manager is Tone Karničar (tel: 00 386 (0)40 673 449). e-mail: tone.karnicar@siol.net

The hut is open during the summer hiking season (mid June to the end of September).
In May and October: on weekends and holidays.

Reserving is not mandatory, but recommended.
There are 70 seats in the restaurant area (heated).
40 beds in 6 rooms. 30 beds in 2 dorms.
Toilet. Cold water. Electricity. Mobile phone.
Helicopter platform.
> Winter room

The full name of the hut is Češka koča na Spodnjih Ravneh. "Na Spodnjih Ravneh" means: on Spodnje Ravni, which is a high terrace at the end of the Ravenska koča valley.
The walls surrounding Spodnje Ravni are those of (E to W): Dolgi hrbet, Grintovec, Dolška škrbina and Jezerska Kočna.

The main goal above the Czech hut is of course the ascent of Grintovec (the highest summit in the range), from the north side.
Kočna, Skuta, or even Dolgi hrbet are also very interesting.

Getting There

Ravenska kočna and Makekova kočna are two large valleys opening towards the spread out Jezersko locality. Jezersko is along road 210, between Eisenkappel and Kranj (please click the coords in the primary info).
The Makekova kočna valley ends at Jezersko-center (Jezersko Kazina bus stop). Upstream along the Jezernica, the Ravenska kočna valley ends at the Planšarsko jezero lake (Jezersko Jezero bus stop).

Ravenska kočna valley:
The Jezersko/tovorna žičnica trailhead is at the upper end of the road entering the Ravenska kočna valley (6 km).
Upstream of Jezersko-center, split south off the main road, following signposts for Planšarsko jezero (the lake) until the lake inn. Next, circle the lake to the right (looking upstream). This road is asfalted until the Ancelj ranch, and in winter this is often as far as we can drive. Continue along the macadamized road, following the Tovorna žičnica signpost as splits come up. There is parking space around the lower station of the tovorna žičnica, the cargo cableways supplying the Češka and the Kranjska hut.
This trailhead is the start of two paths to the Češka koča hut (and of two paths to the Kranjska koča hut). The option mentioning "Žrelo" is "very demanding", by hiking standards.
> alternate: along the road, upon reaching the forest at the upper end of the valley, split right (signposted Česka koča).

The Makekova kočna valley also offers a path to the Czech hut, signposted Česka koča right in Jezersko-center (Kazina bus stop).

>> An interesting (very demanding) marked and secured path links the Czech hut to the Kranjska hut, crossing the foot of the Dolgi hrbet N face.

Red Tape

Unless signalized (barrier, signpost), and upon your own responsibility, macadamized roads are allowed and visible on maps (these roads are mainly maintained for lumbering and hut cable station access purposes).
Fishing & hunting is regulated.
Wild camping and open fires are not allowed.
The Kamnik-Savinja Alps are part of the Natura 2000 program.
