| Started from Iceberg Lake before dawn despite somewhat questionable weather. Up and back down by the time the serious weather rolled in. Avoided an epic! Encountered snow, hail and rain that night at Iceberg Lake. Ditched plans on Mount Russell and bailed the next morning. | |

| Looking at the face you'd never guess the route is so easy. Dcurless is right;route on the fresh air traverse can be tricky. I got off route there, took a twenty foot fall, got the rope stuck and burned a few hours before we got back on route. | |

| Saturday we were cragging at Holcomb Pinnacles and we decided this sport climbing thing is kind of weak. So on a whim we drive up to Whitney Portal, and on Sunday we run up and solo the East Face. 13 hrs CTC; we had to descend down the main Whitney Trail because the MR was icy and all we had was tennis shoes and no axes. Fun day, I would guess 10 hrs CTC would be do-able if you could come down the MR and you acclimatized properly (we had headaches). | |
