Elegug Stacks

Elegug Stacks
Elegug Stacks are two limestone stacks just off the south Pembroke coast. They have each been climbed at Very Severe, Elegug Spire (left) and Elegug Tower (right), however the ascents were no well recorded so the grades may well be suspect. In summer the rocks are covered with nesting guillemots (Elegug is Welsh for guillemot) and razorbills. Because of the nesting birds, climbing is completely banned between March and August.

Castlemartin Range, Pembrokeshire (March 2009).

"The happy climber, like the aged Ulysses, is one who has "drunk delight of battle with his peers", and this delight is only attainable by assaulting cliffs which tax to their very utmost limits the powers of the mountaineers engaged."   --A F Mummery
