Climbed the new trail  Sucess!

Until it petered out! I have climbed a few times since May, and the trail is finished now, but they have put a fence up top at one of the ledges... Nice quick hike to add on to the end of the day.

New Elk Knob Trail  Sucess!

The NC Park system has done a great job with this new hikers' trail. They've even put some stone walling up in some spots to avoid cutting switchbacks.
I did this yesterday in fog and with about 18 inches of snow in some places, so I'm not sure how complete the hikers' trail is now. No views, so I'll have to come back someday.

Elk Knob via Elk Knob summit trail  Sucess!

My wife and I climbed Elk Knob while the summit was shrouded in clouds. The trail was short but steep. It probably took around 40 min. to make it to the top. A nice way to stretch your legs but not a major climb.

Wow...  Sucess!

Hiked up the old road to the summit. So glad I finally made it to this peak. The trail up was surprisingly steep but short. The views were amazing. It was the morning after a strong cold front blew through and the mountains stretched on forever. I could see the Black Mountains some 50+ miles away crystal clear. If you havn't visited this peak yet DO IT!!!
