Elk Mountain was where we...
Elk Mountain was where we learned to climb in the early 1970s. At the top is Bob Muir leading and Mack Muir following. At the time we either climbed in tennis shoes or Army boots. When we saw rock shoes in a catalog we were so amazed. We made all of our own harnesses and the steel carabiners we ordered from Europe were nothing like todays. We were so lucky we didn't get hurt. Today after climbing all over the world we still look back at those simple days in high school when we dreamed of the "big" mountains and "big" walls.
