Elkhorn Peak summit cairn

Elkhorn Peak summit cairn

Now that is what you can call a big cairn. At least 8-9 feet tall (close to three meters) Mountaingazelle provided this information: "The eight foot summit cairn was built in 1878 by Henry Gannett and Allen D. Wilson and still stands today"

Thanks Larry, I sure didn't expect this one to be POTD. Melinda has a similar (and better pic of it) posted on her Elkhorn Peak page.

Cairn?

I'd call it a fossilized haystack. :-)

Difficult....

to say how big it is. There is no any object to compare.
No scale.

Re: Difficult....

It is over my head by two and a half feet so I'd call it about 8-9 feet high. Thanks for pointing out the scale aspect. (I never suspected that this would be chosen POTD) ; )

Cairn Envy

That's what you get when yours is so much bigger than average.

Re: Cairn Envy

I should re title it to "Big summit cairn" Just plain "summit cairn" doesn't do it justice.
