Late Fall Ascent  Sucess!

South Face from 8800', still some nice fall colors. Ascent with MR, last portion was steep talus. No snow or ice today. Weather held despite delayed start of 9:00 AM. Good day overall. Hike back down Blanca road to the vehicle, as always, seemed too long.

Still no snow on top  Sucess!

About 1:30hr coming off the top of Blanca Peak. Although a 14-er, Ellingwood Point is much shorter, looser rock, and has a 300' gendarme to go around. Stayed the ridge-line up to the register and then the lower variation shortcut down to trail back to lake Como. Long 16hr day car-to-car for 2 summits.

Traverse + Ellingwood  Sucess!

First 14ers on the year. Little Bear via the Hourglass, the Traverse, then over to Ellingwood and down the ridge- all around the cirque! The Traverse is not nearly as bad as it's made out to be.

Winter Ascent  Sucess!

Climbed an unknown couloir (SW Couloir?) to the Southwest Ridge and followed to the summit. Very pleasing and aesthetic ridge. Spicy with the snow.

Second summit of the day  Sucess!

While on the summit I heard real mountaineers don't hike Gannett Peak in Wyoming in one day. I almost burst out laughing. We all do what we enjoy; everyone has a different take on the subject.

Combo w/ Blanca

Started at 8,800' at about 2:30am and summited both Blanca and Ellingwood Point. Long but very rewarding day.

Southwest Face  Sucess!

Climbed the normal route. Ice on the rocks in the early morning, but conditions improved throughout the morning. This was #54 of the Colorado #58 14ers. Fun hike.

From Lake Como with Blanca  Sucess!

Enjoyed the traverse over here from Blanca. It was raining the last little bit to the top, making the rocks slick, but at least the cool temperatures kept the atsmospheric electricity at bay. Opted for a "shortcut" traverse for the descent...which sucked.

With Blanca  Sucess!

After summiting Blanca Peak we did traverse to Ellingwood Point. Great views of Blanca, Little Bear, Lindsey! SDescending from this mountain is not my favorite.

Ridge traverse from Blanca  Sucess!

Traversed from Blanca after completing the Little Bear-Blanca traverse. Dark clouds were building, so I hiked quickly from the saddle. Long day since I started from ~8,500ft in the valley.

24 years after Blanca  Sucess!

decided to come back and climb this. Started at about 9800 feet on the Lake Como road. Pretty straightforward. Ended up traversing over to Blanca to repeat my 1988 climb

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

Classic route up a beautiful ridge line. Solid and fun class III all the way from the upper lake to the summit of Ellingwood. The descent through the talus wasn't fun, but the hike was great. Not sure I want to repeat the trudge up the Como Lake road in daylight!

WIND  Sucess!

Great winter climb. No snow on the road until we reached the Como Lake drainage (Holbrook Creek). The snowpack on the peaks is pretty shallow, with faceted crystals covered by sun crust.
