Emergency bivouac :) by E79 | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
The valleys north and west of the Parâng Mountains are actually canyons, space is scarce. Well, we didn't manage to get to a better camping place that night - the valley of River Jiu, unfortunately dirty - unlike its tributaries. The morning mist is actually smog, spreading from the nearby mining towns.

I really wonder how Romania as a state looked like in these years of dark Ceaucescu dictatorship when compare it to Poland.

Hasn't voted | Things didn't look that bad in the late '70s but worsened dramatically in the '80s - just like here in Poland (it's always been similar actually, just a bit worse, hungrier); under Ceaucescu the secret police terrorised and controlled the country more effectively than 'our guys' did.
As to the dramatic change around 1980: in 1978/9 we bought loads of fruit at privately-owned stands; in 1981 we just got one peach - a gift from a stranger in the lounge of the railway station in Oradea/Nagyvárad. | | Posted May 31, 2009 11:17 am |
