Emergency bivouac :) by E79

The valleys north and west of the Parâng Mountains are actually canyons, space is scarce. Well, we didn't manage to get to a better camping place that night - the valley of River Jiu, unfortunately dirty - unlike its tributaries. The morning mist is actually smog, spreading from the nearby mining towns.

I really wonder how Romania as a state looked like in these years of dark Ceaucescu dictatorship when compare it to Poland.

	Hasn't voted	Things didn't look that bad in the late '70s but worsened dramatically in the '80s - just like here in Poland (it's always been similar actually, just a bit worse, hungrier); under Ceaucescu the secret police terrorised and controlled the country more effectively than 'our guys' did. As to the dramatic change around 1980: in 1978/9 we bought loads of fruit at privately-owned stands; in 1981 we just got one peach - a gift from a stranger in the lounge of the railway station in Oradea/Nagyvárad.
