Emil Steuri…

Grindelwald cemetery

Wetterhorn by the west ridge was first climbed by Emil Steuri in a group of four on August 6, 1927. Six years earlier Emils cousin Fritz Steuri took part in a far more famous first ascent. On September 10, 1921 Fritz Steuri, Fritz Amatter, Samuel Brawand and the Japanese guide Yuko Maki set out to climb the Mittellegigrat on the Eiger. They brought a long pole to overcome the difficult part. They succeeded in being the first party to climb this famous ridge.
Emil Steuri died quietly 83 years old 1971.
