Emory peak via Pinnacles trailThis really is a great hike and scramble. In my opinion this one is better than Guadalupe. We began to climb immediatley from the Chisos basin. I am guessing this climb is about 90% vertical. The scenery along the way is breathtaking. I found myself stopping to admire more than I did while hiking Guadalupe, with the exception of the Notch. The rain began to fall just below the summit of the bear bins. Not a driving rain but and on-off mist. I thought the trip from the bear bins to the summit was going to be fairly easy: not so. We found ourselves hiking in the misty rain. This made for a more challenging hike. Undaunted we kept going. Reaching the rock scramble, I was not ready for the drop to my right. This is in the pic.
 Drop-off! |
The rain has now covered the rocks and made them very slippery. With this drop-off on my right, I figured the better part of Valor was to retreat. So I did. Images
