| I did normal route from the north, which is not difficult nor technical at all, but still very exposed, one cannot afford to fall there. Avoid visiting this ridge if rainy or humid, or even in early season on snow though it's of course sometimes done. Better do it when very dry. Precautions (rope) might help people not at ease with this kind of hike, though it's not always easy to belay. there are quite a lot of signs explaining it's a risky hike , but this peak, in spite of a relatively low altitude is quite worth a visit. | Mid-may, in maybe 30cm of fresh snow, knee deep in places. The aim was to traverse the whole ridge. Bizarre and unexpected conditions for may. Luckily I had my piolet. When the cloud closed in and the snow started again in poor visibility I called it a day, I'm pretty sure from a perch just after Pointe de Haute Bene. Locked my bike near col de la Ramaz, easy approach to Col de Chalune but then tricky conditions over to col de foron with the route up the ridge sometimes hard to pick out with drifts and cornices on the north side. A small mountain with a great alpine ambiance in these conditions, exposed and I didn't see another soul, just lots of marmots. Dashed up Pointe de Chalune on the way back for a view onto the Roc, but there was none and then a 2hour cycle home. Phew. | |
