the mountains themselves are eternal. We live near a mountain chain that is 300 millions years old, the tallest is 614 m. Once they were as tall as the Alps.

You are right, as a geologist I know of course that nothing remains as it is (and even Heraklit knew it 2500 years ago). The question mark was intended to provoke.
