Eureka Ditch from Sprague Mountain

[ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Eureka Ditch from Sprague Mountain
Eureka Ditch from the southern slopes of Sprague Mountain. The ditch diverts water that would naturally flow to the west of the watershed to the east. From Sprague Pass, follow the ditch to connect to the Tonahutu Trail in the direction of Flattop Mountain. Rocky Mountain National Park, September 2005.

Passing through Bighorn Flats along the Eureka Ditch on Sept 11, 2005, we noticed that someone (the Park Service?) had modified the Ditch (using a small dam and channel) to send water back to the west of the Divide, as Nature originally decreed. The main channel (visible from the ridge) continues to the east, but the flow to the east is much reduced.
