Evening Light on Three Fingers

Evening Light on Three Fingers

I look out the window from my house and see the glowing lights on the mountains, I am instantly filled with excitement. I run in my room to grab my camera, put on my shoes and dash out the door. As I'm running my neighbor asks me "What's the Big Rush?" which I yell back "I'm in a hurry for photography time". Unfortunately where I live there are many power lines which make mountain photography difficult. Fortunately there is a spot perfect for capturing views of Three Fingers which I now see glowing with wild lights. I stop and try to capture the scene as best as I could. I could see that the clouds all around were shifting which meant at any moment they could cover up the mountain, so timing was everything. "Don't stop Shooting" I whisper to myself as I try to have steady hands when out of breath and zooming in to the landscape. This photo was taken March 17, 2011 from the city of Lynnwood, Washington during a great scenic moment on Three Fingers Mountain. As I had predicted, a few minutes after this photo was taken clouds came rushing over covering the mountain, until at last the view was gone. I gave one last smile over to Three Fingers knowing that at least I enjoyed the moment of great scenery, no matter how far away it was.

Re: Very

Thanks Ejnar! The lighting on the mountain was very nice which is what captured my attention when looking out towards the mountains.

Lovely!

Oh what photographers do for that special shot! I've run out of a restaurant to catch the sun setting...husband is used to it now!

Consider enlarging and framing this one!

Re: Lovely!

Indeed! It doesn't matter if I have to bike a few miles, run a ways, and of course the classic... climb mountains! But the enjoyment of watching such moments makes it worth it every time. I actually saw a lady walking by without even once glancing at the beautiful scenery which had me wondering how often people let beautiful moments escape them without even enjoying them or not giving a look for them. Anyways thanks for your nice words to my photo.

Re: I like this photo

Thanks Michael, I had only a short time to notice that I had photo of the Day. Once I got home from Saturday's bike ride I had to get to sleep for yesterday's tough adventure. Glad you liked it, but too bad you missed it. At least you get to see this mountain from our house.

Reminds me...

Of Ararat. Armenia has lots of cypress trees, so the mountain and these trees are firmly related in my mind. Superb photo! (I'm not sure if the ones in this picture are cypress trees, though)

Re: Reminds me...

I don't think they are, but then again because this was in Lynnwood it could have been planted by people which then possibily could be... hard to say. Thanks Hamik for your comment!

Re: Fantastic!

Thanks Eric! Earlier that day I also rushed to the same spot for a mid day photo because the clouds layered over the mountain, but it did not turn out as well and the clouds came in too fast. I'm glad to be able to see mountains from my home.

Re: Best

Thanks ExcitableBoy, I've watched Three Fingers from my house for years as I would go outside for a walk. When lighting on the mountains are good, it would be a shame for me not to jump to the scene and enjoy it.

Sweet

It was worth the effort to run after this shot. A beauty.

Re: Sweet

Indeed, I often times find myself running for photos. But most of the time it is worth while, except for the time the sun was setting over Three Fingers during Sunset with the moon hanging over it which I had no memory card in my camera. But at least I got to enjoy the moment of scenery.

You say this is a two-minute walk...

...from your house?? To have THAT sort of a view, I'd have to travel AT LEAST to Badgastein (2 hours by train!)!

Re: You say this is a two-minute walk...

Technically I can barely see the mountain from my dinner table if I stand up on a chair. Power lines make photography difficult in my neighborhood but at least I get a good view of a few of the peaks.
