Evolution Lake
This entire region is thought by many to rank at the top, for its scenery and its relative inaccessibility. Most of the people you meet here are real, good-natured, and very much in love with these mountains and this area. It takes at least 2 days to get here by trail (unless you really run, then what's the point?) and it used to be a great place to base camp In '74 we spent 3 weeks here, but i think now the limit is 1 or 2 days. There is a fantastic climb up Mt Spenser from here, see "spence's incredible series of photos on the Mt Spenser Page. Or from Sapphire Lake head east and scramble up the the glacier below Mt Fiske.
