Ewe high above Pine Creek

[ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Ewe high above Pine Creek
A nice Bighorn Sheep Ewe I spotted on route to Mescalito.
She was up there solo.

Red Rocks, Nevada. May 2007.

This is a fun class 3 scramble that ascends the North Fork of Pine Creek and descends into the South Fork of Pine Creek.
You can view a slideshow of the route and other friends we met along the way here:

I was examining the topo on Pine Creek, looks like a reliable source of water. And the wildlife must LOVE IT! Do you always find most of the wildlife in close proximity to WATER? Always love your photos, take care & CHEERS !!!

Thank you.
From what I read it sounds that bighorns will not live more than 2 miles away from water source.
In Red Rocks there is always some water in Pine Creek. There are also many other springs in other canyons (so many that the entire range got its name the Spring Mountains) and tinajas. I have seen bighorns pretty much in all of Red Rocks. Most of my shots of them come from Pine Creek though because it is my favorite area and I spend a lot of time there. Lots of great peaks and lots of wildlife.

YES, that explains why I've been seeing bighorn sheep wandering around within a few miles of Roosevelt Lake in central Arizona. Thanks for the valuable information. Any snow there yet??? How 'bout on Charleston?

I'm never farther than 2 feet from my water jug here in Arizona. Thanks & stay safe!!!
