Female Cones
Shed female cones of Pinus ponderosa - Ponderosa pine inspected by Carole's Fritillary butterfly.
Photographed on route to Big Falls in Mount Charleston Wilderness, Nevada.

Each ponderosa pine produces both male and female cones.
